POSTGRADUATE SCHOOL APPLICATION PROCEDURE
Admission Requirements
The programs are primarily intended for Christian individuals engaged in professional or vocational ministry. However, mature Christian leaders who may not be in "full-time" ministry but meet the established qualifications are also encouraged to apply. All applications will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis, with final admission decisions made by the faculty. Below are the standard qualifications for admission:
General Requirements: The programs are designed for professional pastors, missionaries, and ministers in Christian organizations and institutions with experience in full-time Christian ministry. Applicants should be mature Christian leaders who hold a Master of Divinity, or an equivalent degree.
Specific Requirements for Master of Theology (ThM) Applicants: Applicants for the Master of Theology program must possess a recognized Master of Divinity (M.Div.) degree, with a minimum grade point average of 3.0 (or a ‘B’) on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent).
Specific Requirements for Doctoral Studies Applicants: Applicants for doctoral studies must possess a recognized Master of Divinity (M.Div.) degree, with a minimum grade point average of 3.3 (or a ‘B+’) on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent).
Applicants with an M.A., M.C.S., or Equivalent Degree: Applicants holding only an M.A., M.C.S., or an equivalent degree may be considered for admission provided they complete the pre-postgraduate studies program before proceeding to their chosen postgraduate program.
Entrance Exam: All applicants must successfully complete an entrance exam as part of the admission process.
ADMISSIONS PROCESS
Application Procedure
1. Pay a non-refundable application fee of RM100/US$50 and complete the application form in the MJS Education System (https://mbtsweb.onrender.com). Please ensure all information is correct before submitting. Incorrect submissions may require students to resubmit.
2. Prepare supporting documents.
i. Testimony on conversion experience and conviction of calling into full-time Christian vocation (< 1,000 words).
ii. All academic records (certificates and transcripts) from tertiary education onward.
iii. Endorsement letter from church/organization: financial assistance (if any), and clearance of sufficient time to undertake the studies.
iv. A sample research paper previously submitted during Master level studies (minimum 10 pages).
v. Write a 3000-word essay, typewritten and double-spaced, describing the student’s, (a) burden and gifts of ministry, (b) goals for the programme and proposed area of research, (c) adjustment needed for studies, and (d) self-development in Spiritual Formation.
vi. Letter of recommendation from three (3) referees. This is not a requirement for MBTS alumni continuing their studies within 5 years of the last degree.
3. Upload #3 in the MJS Education System.
4. The doctoral programme committee will review and consider the applicant’s credentials.
5. Upon the consideration of the committee,
i. a. the doctoral office will send the questions for entrance exam to the doctoral program applicant.
Applicants are given two (2) months to prepare for the exam. The entrance exam is not a requirement for the ThM and PhD applicant.
ii. the applicant is to schedule a time with the doctoral programme department to take the exam.
iii. the doctoral office will schedule an interview with the applicant which will be conducted by the director of the respective programme.
7. Upon successful completion of the above criteria, the applicant will be sent an admission letter.
